Question: I got pregnant while on birth control pills. I kept taking them for about a month because I had no clue I was pregnant. Will this affect my baby? I’m freaked out!
Answer: Preferably, women should stop using birth control pills for three months (or for at least two periods) before trying to get pregnant. But since pregnancy doesn’t always wait for perfect conditions, sometimes a woman gets pregnant while taking the Pill. There’s no reason for worry, in spite of the warnings you might have read on your pill’s packaging. Statistically, there’s no proof of an increased risk to the baby when the mother got pregnant while on the Pill. Talking with your healthcare practitioner about this should further relieve your worry.
