You’ll undoubtedly gain weight during your pregnancy. It’s essential for your health and your baby’s health. It may be difficult for you to step on the scale and see your weight rise. So, it’s important that you recognize now that it’s OK to gain weight. Gaining pregnancy weight doesn’t mean “letting yourself go;” you can control your weight by careful, healthy eating. But just know that you NEED to gain enough weight to meet the needs of your pregnancy.

Gain pregnancy weight slowly. You might be eating for two, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat twice as much. Likely, you won’t be able to eat whatever you want during pregnancy (just like you weren’t able to do so before your pregnancy).  So, eat foods with a lot of nutritional value. Foods to avoid are those with “empty calories”—ones that have a lot of sugar and fat. Fresh fruits and veggies are smart choices.
