You can get into a healthy physical and emotional state (“wellness”) by making a purposeful effort and preventative actions. If you can maintain wellness, it will make your pregnancy a more pleasurable journey.
One idea to concentrate on your wellness during pregnancy is through the simple act of walking. If possible, walk 30 minutes or more every day, outdoors if you can. Walking allows your body to strengthen and removes toxins; it can also clear your mind with the extra oxygen and attention to the environment.
Avoiding watching shows or visiting websites during your pregnancy that make you feel nervous. Watching labor and delivery “reality shows” and reading uniformed websites can distort your view of how the process really is. These shows and websites often focus on the scary and the intense, and are very unlikely to help you relax. It’s good to remember that the majority of births worldwide are healthy and normal.

- Read a lighthearted book or magazine
- Play some of your favorite music, or explore new music
- Go out for dinner at a new restaurant
- Knit or crochet
- Cook a high-protein meal that includes lots of veggies
- Baking and eating a sweet treat
- Take a long, warm bath
